The University of Westminster began 180 years ago as the first polytechnic in London and one of the first in England. Its aim was to educate the working people of the city of London. Today, we continue to build on that reputation and help students from all backgrounds reach their full potential. We have over 19,000 students from 169 different nationalities studying at undergraduate, postgraduate and higher degree levels.
History of Westminster University

- Hosting the first marathon race at the London Olympics, with the now-traditional distance of 26 miles and 385 yards (1908)
- Offering the first undergraduate degrees in photography, film and media studies (1960s and 1970s)
- The first modern university to win the Queen's Award for International Trade
